The Role of Copilot in Dynamics 365 for Warehouse Management

A photo of a warehouse worker using a mobile device to evaluate inventory

As a dad, I know the value of a helping hand—whether it's with household chores (or delegating said chores to your kiddos) or managing a busy schedule (should read "figuring out how to go to dance class for my daughter and take my son to basketball"). In the world of warehouse management / WMS, Dynamics 365's Copilot offers that much-needed assistance, enhancing efficiency and streamlining operations through AI-powered support.

Important note: this feature requires you to be in the latest version of D365 Finance & Operations, and the warehouse mobile app must be up to date. Please go to that and come back to this page.... I'll wait.

The Role (or roles?) of Copilot

Copilot in Dynamics 365 is designed to support various warehouse management tasks, making operations smoother and more efficient. Key functionalities include:

  1. Inventory Tracking: Provides real time insights into inventory levels (even will translate into your preferred unit of measure, chef's kiss), helping warehouse workers maintain optimal stock and reduce carrying costs. This ensures that products are available when needed without overstocking.

  2. Order Fulfillment: Think about this as having Copilot analyze your existing orders and suggest a prioritized order by looking at order patterns and your supply chain. This could help you optimize your pick, pack and shipping processes.

  3. Resource Allocation: Something that I hear a lot when talking about production control and warehousing is resource allocation. Allowing Copilot to help here could drastically help manage your labor standards, equipment usage and enable you to see process adherence to another level.

Embracing the Future

By now, this is sort of starting to sound like a sales pitch, so if you've reached this point, please promo code #DynamicsDad20 for... never mind, I am not at that level. With Copilot, there exists a future of Copilot being a "staff-augmentation" mode where it can be an extra Continuous Improvement Process Engineer optimizing your warehouse for peak efficiency. The future of warehouse management lies in leveraging AI and automation. By integrating Copilot, businesses can be agile in warehousing operations allowing them to quickly adjust to changing market conditions, customer demands, and supply chain disruptions.

To all my fellow professionals managing warehouse operations or implementers consulting companies, it’s about working smarter, not harder, and embracing the future of warehouse management.

Dad joke of the day:

Did you hear about the two rowboats that got into an argument? It was an oar-deal.

Best,

Dynamics Dad
