Why Copilot in D365 and M365 is Failing to Liftoff in Your Org

Hey there! Today, we're diving into a hot topic: why are users struggling to find creative ways to utilize Copilot, and how can we turn this around?

The Struggle with Copilot

Copilot, Microsoft's AI-powered assistant, is designed to streamline tasks and boost productivity across D365 and M365. But let's be honest – many of us are scratching our heads, wondering how to tap into its full potential. The root of the problem? We're not asking the right questions, and we're not priming our creative juices. Let's break it down.

Asking Better Questions

The age-old adage goes, "Ask better questions, get better answers." This couldn't be more relevant when working with Copilot. Often, we throw vague commands at it and expect groundbreaking results. Instead, we should be asking targeted, specific questions that guide Copilot to deliver precise and useful responses.

How to Ask Better Questions:

  1. Be Specific: Instead of asking Copilot to "generate a report," specify what kind of report you need, including the data range, metrics, and format.

  2. Use Context: Provide Copilot with as much context as possible. For example, "Create a financial summary report for Q1 2024, highlighting revenue, expenses, and profit margins."

  3. Iterate and Refine: If Copilot's response isn't quite right, refine your question. Think of it as a conversation where each interaction gets you closer to the perfect answer.

Priming Your Creative Juices

Remember those old-school basketball pumps on your shoes? You'd pump them up, believing it would help you jump higher. While that might have been a placebo, it taught us an essential lesson: preparation matters.

Similarly, we need to prime our creative thinking to fully leverage Copilot's capabilities.

Ways to Prime Creativity:

  1. Brainstorm Sessions: Start your day with a quick brainstorming session. Write down all the ways you think Copilot could assist you, no matter how outlandish they may seem.

  2. Explore Use Cases: Look at how others are using Copilot. Sometimes, seeing examples can spark new ideas.

  3. Play and Experiment: Don't be afraid to experiment. Use Copilot for tasks outside your usual scope to see what innovative solutions it can offer.
